Vaccinium ovatum '124OSU' Cascade Jewel USPP#35,894
Developed at the Oregon Agricultural Research Center in Corvallis, Oregon and introduced by Oregon State University. Vaccinum ovatum ‘124OSU’ aka Cascade Jewel stands out from other cultivars with thicker more rigid stems, giving ‘Cascade Jewel’ a more structured upright habit. Dense compact growth allows for a less floppy evergreen shrub while maintaining vigorous growth habits which allows for a quicker finish with less pruning. Eye catching new deep red growth. Extremely floriferous, providing racemes of white, urn shaped flowers that bloom in the spring followed by medium to large glossy purple/black berries in the summer. Multiple points of interest.
Drought and salt tolerant but prefers acidic soils that are moist and well drained. It attracts hummingbirds and butterflies while being deer resistant. Grows to 3 feet wide by 3½ feet tall. Hardy to zones 7–9.
