Bouteloua gracilis Blonde Ambition

  • High Country Gardens/David Salman
  • 2011 Plant Select® winner
  • Royalty Fee

Blue Grama is an important native plant of the Great Plains shortgrass prairie, Manitoba south and west across the Rocky Mountains, Great Plains, and Midwest States, to Mexico.
It makes a low tuft of finely textured, blue-green leaves, topped by unusual spikes of bristly chartreuse inflorescence, aging to blond, rising above the foliage and held at an angle, resembling a swarm of flying insects. This robust grass is sure to attract attention wherever it is planted.
Full sun is best, and it is very drought and cold tolerant once established.
Pollinator friendly & wildlife tolerant.
