Fargesia rufa Hardy Clumping Bamboo
A fast-growing, shade-tolerant, evergreen, cold-hardy bamboo that typically grows in a clump to 6-8’ tall and to 5-6’ wide. Roots form a dense, slowly-creeping clump that is not invasive in the landscape. Orange-red cane sheaths at each node add warmth and color to this appealing, well-contained bamboo. Deep green leaves do not curl in sunlight or in freezing temperatures. Fairly upright when young, older canes arch under the weight of their foliage.
Low maintenance, grows in any well drained soil except sand, with medium water requirements. Prefers part shade, but tolerates full sun. Cold and heat tolerant.
